CompactPCI Serial (CPCIS.0)
PICMG CPCIS.0: Defines a new system slot which is connected to up to eight peripheral slots via a star topology. All slots have the same fixed pin assignment to avoid additional keying on the backplane. IPMI/SMB and geographical addressing are supported as well. These peripheral slots can be used for PCI Express extensions with high speed and data transfer rate requirements as well as for hard drive raids, Ethernet switches or USB-based WiFi solutions. Thanks to the star topology CompactPCI Plus can again be combined in more complex systems in order to achieve a higher computing performance or to build redundant systems for safety-critical applications. This is done without using switched fabrics in order to keep the system simple and inexpensive. CPCIS.0 specifies the AirMax connector from FCI (Second Source from Amphenol) which is expected to support data transfer rates of up to 12GBit per second and more.
