PICMG 2.30 PlusIO: Defines downward-compatibility with CompactPCI by supporting the new serial buses on a modified J2 connector. Such a hybrid CPU remains 100% CompactPCI 2.0 compatible, the peripheral slots are 100% CompactPCI Plus compatible. The modified J2 signals use the UHM connector from 3M which is completely mechanically compatible to the HM connector for CompactPCI, but allows for data transfer rates of up to 5 GBit per second which are required for serial signals.
When using a dual slot CPU, the new system slot can also be used to build a hybrid system. In combination with a suitable hybrid backplane the prerequisites are also given for using both CompactPCI and CompactPCI Plus assemblies in the same system. This is advantageous, as most existing I/O boards can thus be continued to be used with CompactPCI while the functions with high data transfer rate requirements are realized as CompactPCI Plus boards. In practice, the system slot will be situated in the middle of the hybrid system.
